Unforgotten: A Solo Exhibition by Zara Shahi, Artist-in-Residence
“Unforgotten” brings together a poignant collection of textile and multimedia works created by fiber artist Zara Shahi during her residency at the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park. Born and raised in Tehran, and currently completing her MFA at UMass Dartmouth, Shahi bridges traditional craft with contemporary conceptual art. The exhibition explores the deeply personal and collective landscapes of memory, identity, and displacement. Moving seamlessly between photography, papermaking, and intricate weaving, Shahi utilizes delicate, translucent materials that interact with light and shadow to evoke a sense of both profound strength and fragile impermanence. Featuring collaborative elements created alongside the local community during her residency workshops, “Unforgotten” offers a striking visual meditation on the emotional traces we carry across time and borders. Free and open to the public.
