SUMMARY:42nd Annual Jazz Concert: Akoma Ensemble with guest vocalist Candida Rose
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 42nd Annual Jazz Concert! \nMusic will take place from 11 AM to 1 PM\, and a vendor event\, refreshments\, and a raffle will run from 10 AM to 1:30 PM. The UUNB Thrift Shop will also be open during the show. \nOur jazz concert recognizes both the roots of jazz in American slavery and the deeply established existence of white supremacy throughout our nation today. To this end\, our church supports the yearly assembling of an ensemble of excellent\, racially diverse musicians who come primarily from our city of New Bedford and its surrounding towns. \nOur goal is to reflect on the racial realities of our country. We hope all who are present leave with a renewed commitment to work towards a more equal and just America. \nThe jazz service is a highlight in our year and helps us raise vital funds for our church and its social justice initiatives. \nWe are excited to welcome back the Akoma Ensemble: Alexis (Ah-Leks-See) Marcelo\, Avery Sharpe\, Charles Langford\, and royal hartigan\, with guest vocalist\, Candida Rose! \nFREE and open to all. This program is funded in part by grants from the New Bedford\, Dartmouth\, Mattapoisett\, and Acushnet Cultural Councils\, local agencies which are supported by Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.
