Greater New Bedford Choral Society presents Christmas Melodies Around the World

Join Greater New Bedford Choral Society for an afternoon of Christmas songs from around the world!

Originally a pagan holiday, Christmas was adopted by the Romans as the date of Christ’s birth in the 4th century and is now celebrated in more than 160 countries. The GNBCS concert will explore the musical language of Christmas around the world with selections featuring a variety of musical styles and ideas from 11 different countries in a multitude of languages. We’ll collaborate with singers from the Discovery Language Academy in New Bedford for some selections and invite the audience to sing along on others!

GNBCS is a non-audition SATB chorus under the direction of Brian Dean Sousa that brings together voices from all walks of life to create beautiful music and meaningful connections. Founded in 1964, we perform classical, contemporary, and world music while fostering a welcoming environment for singers of all skill levels. Our mission is to enrich our community through the transformative power of choral music. In addition to our concert performances, we engage in a program of informal community singing, for which we sing at local assisted living facilities, councils on again, and community events. Everyone is welcome to sing with GNBCS–no experience is necessary! Our members come from surrounding communities including Westport, Dartmouth, Acushnet, Lakeville, New Bedford, Fall River, and Fairhaven. We have combined with the New Bedford Symphony, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Chorus, and other area choral societies to perform larger works.
