Hauling Back Generational Fishing Family Project Showcase

Join photographer Phil Mello and videographer Markham Starr to learn more about the Center’s ongoing Hauling Back Generational Fishing Family Project, which presents stories of multigenerational fishing families and businesses in New Bedford and along the South Coast. Learn about some of the featured families and watch the short films that Mello and Starr produced for the project.

Hauling Back features families such as the Pasquill family of Turk’s Seafood in Mattapoisett, the Enoksen family of Eastern Fisheries, the Bendiksen family of Reidar’s Manufacturing, and the Nanfelt family of Kyler Seafood.Together Phil Mello and Mark Starr have interviewed and photographed members of the fishing community and created a series of short films. The resulting photographs, recordings, transcripts, and scanned materials will become part of FHC’s archival collection and will be uploaded to the NOAA Voices web-based archive.
