SUMMARY:MUSIC AT THE MUSEUM - Serenades & Suites
DESCRIPTION:Upcoming: Serenades & Suites \nBeethoven Serenade Op.25 \nScored for flute\, violin\, and viola; completed in 1801. Six movements each with a lively\, unique character. Written for his friend Giovanni Cappi\, an aspiring music publisher who knew a chamber work by Beethoven would boost sales.\nQuincy Porter (1897-1966) Suite in E\nComposed in Paris in 1928. This “Little Trio” (altenate title) consists of 4 elegant and distinctly American movements. Hymn-like\, introspective moments contrasted with impossibly light\, flitting dances. Perfect for a Summer sound scape.\nMax Reger (1873-1916) Serenade Op. 141a\nComposed in 1915 (later reworked for 2 violins & viola and given the Opus number of 141b)\, this three movement Serenade exhibits Reger’s disciplined North German seriousness. It is\, however\, a work of intense color and character when played with sensitivity. Those familiar with his works for organ will find a delicate transparency in this introspective and lively trio. \nPeter Dutilly joined the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in 2022 after a previous appointment in 2019–20. A violist and composer\, he spent eight seasons with the Orlando Philharmonic\, where he also served as Acting Assistant Principal Viola. His compositions have been performed by orchestras and universities across the U.S. Outside of music\, he enjoys cooking\, traveling\, and spending time with his fiancé\, Chad\, and their cats. \nTimothy Macri is Principal Flute of the New Bedford Symphony and Atlantic Symphony orchestras. He also serves as Director of Music for the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Boston\, Massachusetts. Tim is an active teacher and clinician\, and acts as a consultant for flute makers. Mr. Macri runs a successful YouTube channel (@IWantMyTimTV) where he has faithfully presented a new\, live video performance every Sunday for the past 4 1/2 years. \nJennifer Hsiao is organist at Old West Church and one of three principal organists at the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Boston. An accomplished organist\, violinist\, and pianist\, she has performed as a recitalist and concerto soloist with several orchestras. She holds degrees from Princeton\, Yale\, and Harvard and is a resident tutor at Harvard as well as a musician with Shelter Music Boston.
