Learn about a past filled with stories from whaling, the textile industry, a working waterfront, the Underground Railroad, Melville’s fictional Captain Ahab who battled Moby Dick, and Frederick Douglass, who found his freedom and voice in New Bedford – just to name a few.

Once home to great American artists Albert Bierstadt, William Bradford, and Albert Pinkham Ryder, the city continues its love of the arts and is ranked the #7 most artistic city in the United States (based on the number of artists per capita) by Richard Florida, the author of the “Rise of the Creative Class”.

Free motorcoach parking available in the Whale’s Tooth Parking Lot, 532 Acushnet Avenue, New Bedford, just half a mile from downtown. Drivers are advised to drop off passengers at the desired venue then park at the lot until passengers are ready for pick up.

During peak tourist season (May through September), Port of New Bedford staff will instruct motorcoach/bus drivers to park along the outer perimeter of the lot as it is usually just under capacity with ferry passengers.

During the shoulder tourist season(s) the lot will have ample space for motorcoach/bus parking and not staffed by the Port.
