The Art Museum offers an eclectic mix of art year-round. On display, you will find large-scale, international solo and group exhibitions of innovative contemporary art, the work of local artists and exhibitions produced in partnership with community organizations and selections from the city of New Bedford’s historic art collection presented in collaboration with the New Bedford Free Public Library.
Visitors can regularly expect participatory and immersive experiences that engage the five senses. The Art Museum serves as a platform for new, rising media and art practices including sound art, olfactory art, biophilic art, and disability art. Media such as ceramics, glass, textiles are frequently on display. The exhibitions are complemented and enriched by related public programs such as the interdisciplinary After Hours suite of programs offering film, dance, poetry, and music thematically tied to exhibitions on view. The Art Museum’s longstanding commitment to local art and artists, the city’s collection, and outside-the-box contemporary art provides visitors with a veritable smorgasbord of art experiences.
