National Historic Landmark and gift of the Republic of Cape Verde, Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey is the official vessel of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Launched in Essex in 1894 as the Effie M. Morrissey, she sailed as a Grand Banks fishing schooner, far-north Arctic explorer and trans-Atlantic Cape Verdean packet. Her homeport is New Bedford, ship’s berth: New Bedford State Pier, Southwest face.
