Sail on an authentic Azorean whaleboat free of charge! The boats are 40 feet long, made entirely of wood, and carry a boat steerer (coxswain) with six rowers. Check the schedule for open rows and sails on their website for time slots available and important information. Interested in joining a competitive team? You’ll find a form on the open rows and sails section of their website as well.

The Azorean Maritime Heritage Society (AMHS) cares for and maintains three of the only remaining sixty-three authentic Azorean whaleboats in the world- Pico, Faial and Bela Vista. Members of the AMHS sail these vessels each summer in Clark’s Cove and feature them in cultural, historical, and recreational events including parades, festivals, and the International Azorean Whaleboat Regatta.

Since 1997, the Azorean Maritime Heritage Society has promoted Azorean culture and shared whaling heritage by raising awareness and pride within New England’s Azorean American community.
