In New Bedford, we love to entertain and we keep the momentum going all year long. Let’s face it; we love gathering for events as much as visitors enjoy the spirit of community they find at every celebration we throw. So we see no sense in stopping the fun after ‘peak season’ and if you visit us in winter, spring or fall you’ll find there’s so much to do the only hard thing is choosing what to do first.
Always a Blast, No Matter The Season

Autumn
Autumn in New England is known for its magical procession of colors, warm sunny days, and cozy crisp nights. Head to the mountains if you must, but we also recommend setting aside some time to breathe in the fresh sea air and indulge in the tastes, sights and sounds of New England Fall on the waterfront.

Winter
Winter is the perfect time to visit those museums and galleries on your list or join in on a workshop, attend a lecture or film screening. New Bedford has an abundance of artistic and cultural experiences waiting to be explored. The festive season inspires a wide array of events including a Holiday Stroll and New Year’s Eve Celebration. And you won’t want to miss the comfort food and health food options that chefs are whipping up all winter long.

Spring
There is a phrase credited to Mark Twain, “If you don’t like the weather in New England now, just wait a few minutes.” Spring is more than the rain that brings the flowers and it’s as good a time as any to visit our Massachusetts city. Take a break from the hustle and bustle and plan that solo trip or rekindle with friends or family with less crowds and the same top notch culinary adventures, small local business shopping, artistic and cultural journeys, and special events.

Summer
Summer in the city is chock full of bucket list adventures and experiences. Embark on educational and immersive journeys, find relaxing and lowkey off-the-beaten path treasures, join in on lively cultural festivals. Dive into unique culinary experiences with the fresh off-the-dock fish and local produce. Get on the water with a harbor tour or kayak rental or hop aboard the Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey. Browse through our summer trip planner for inspiration or just show up and let the fun find you.
AHA! Nights
Every 2nd Thursday of the month the downtown streets are filled with free cultural events, from street performers to live art demonstrations.
October 9, November 14, & December 11.
Buttonwood Park Zoo
The Zoo has so many great events happening this fall – preschoolers can enjoy play groups and art activities, the annual Boo at the Zoo offers daylight trick-or-treating every weekend in October, the brand new Animal Ambassador Center opens in October, and the newly renovated Charlie’s Nature Play is open for kids of all ages.
Enjoy both indoor and outdoor exhibits all year round.
