10 Things to Do and See this November

  1. Experience a unique set of artistic performances at The Collective NB’s The Fall Series, which features a variety of entertainment written, directed, and performed by local artists. Enjoy two one-act plays, live music, and a video segment. The Collective NB is a performing arts collective and this installment of their series is hosted at The Cummings Building in downtown on the corner of William Street and Purchase Street on November 8 & 9 from 7:30-9PM.   2. Discover all things Made in NB at AHA! New Bedford’s November date. AHA! Nights happen every second Thursday of the month featuring free programming in downtown that celebrates art, culture, history, and architecture. November is a special spotlight on the art and artists of New Bedford and beyond. Get a jump on your holiday shopping as your bound to find something unique and locally made at the Artisan Market at 41 William Street (formerly Freestone’s restaurant). Soak in some live music, grab some treats from nearby restaurants and local food trucks, and warm up by a fire pit in Custom House Square. November 14 starting at 3PM. FREE
  3. Warm up to holiday vibes with The New Bedford Art Museum’s November Twirl and Whirl. The museum welcomes the New Bedford Ballet whose dancers will perform excerpts from The Nutcracker on November 12 from 6:30-7:30PM. You won’t want to miss this fusion of visual and performing arts! FREE
  4. Journey into the landscape of your dreams at the edge of the unknown at the opening of Echoing Dreams & Nature: The Artwork of John Jameson and Kellen Riell. This exhibition featuring the work of two prolific landscape painters will be on view at the Co-Creative Center with the opening November 14 from 6-8PM. Suggested donation and registration here.
  5. Gear up for a night of show tunes at Forever Broadway 2 at the Kilburn Mill at Clark’s Cove on November 15 from 7-9PM. Starlight Productions presents an evening of cabaret from classic and contemporary Broadway hits. Expect solos, duets, and group performances from some of your favorites.
  6. Float back and forth between two worlds of music at Bridging Oceans, The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra’s exploration of the connections that occur when gaps are bridged and musical forms united. Known for their creative and engaging ways of combining classical music with unexpected genres of music, arts, and culture, the NBSO performances challenge the idea that there are limits to what classical music can do and who it is meant to attract. This performance joins the music of Argentinian Astor Piazolla and German Johann Sebastian Bach on November 16 at 7:30PM at the Bronspiegel Auditorium at New Bedford High School.   7. Dance the night away at this month’s THUMP & SOUL SESSION at the Underground Railroad Cafe and Gallery. This monthly underground dance gathering featured Afro House, Soulful House, Rare Groove and Afro Beats spun by resident sound system, WAMPTRONICA. Every 3rd Saturday of the month, this gathering features guest DJs and performers, this month landing on November 16 from 9-11PM. $5 suggested donation at the door.
  8. Learn about the Battle of Saratoga at the Fort Taber-Fort Rodman Military Museum & Veteran’s Memorial’s Speaker Series. Colonel Kevin J. Weddle, PhD, will discuss his book The Compleat Victory: Saratoga and the American Revolution. Colonel Weddle is a Professor of Military Theory and Strategy at the U.S. Army War College and served 29 years as a combat engineer officer. FREE
  9. The New Bedford JazzFest brings the funk at their Feel the Funk concert and dance party this November 23 at The Steeple Playhouse from 8-10PM. Headlining this year is BTALC Funk Band featuring Melissa Bolling with local opener Joaquim Santos and The Dope Lotus. Cash bar and snacks. Get your tickets here.
  10. This month is full of funk and The Vault Performing Arts Center & Pub has your end of month dance party covered with the Outta Control R&B Funk Party. Featuring a star-studded lineup including John Valentino of The Whispers, Mario Corbino formerly of The Temptations, CC Briggs from the World Premier Band, David Prout from Autocrats, Sonny May from Hawkeye, James Tootle from Clockwork and Tommy Harris from Legacy.
