    The temporary exhibition Morabeza: Cape Verdean Community in the South Coast is hosted in the San Francisco galleries, adjoining the permanent gallery devoted to Cape Verdean culture that opened in 2011. It features personal stories, oral histories, music, photographs, and belongings from individuals and community organizations to tell the story of the Cape Verdean diaspora across the region, spanning the South Coast, Rhode Island, and Cape Cod.

    Local History Guild is the NBWM’s quarterly Zoom program, an informal discussion about art, history, science and culture related to the museum mission, collection, and the surrounding region. This December, staff from the museum’s Curatorial Department will present on their “Favorite Things”! Zoom in for an up-close discussion of wintery, holiday, and seasonal items from the collection that will emerge from storage like the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.

    Gather the kids—and kids at heart—and celebrate New Year's Eve with us at the New Bedford Whaling Museum! The lively Toe Jam Puppet Band will be in the Jacobs Family Gallery, bringing the family-friendly party to life with interactive silly songs, dancing, and fun for all ages with shows at: Schedule: 5:30 PM – Doors open 5:45 PM – First set 6:45 PM – Second set 7:30 PM – Doors close As the Whaling Museum closes out this free family program at 7:30pm, the night sparkles on with additional activities outside presented by the City of New Bedford.
