• Call For Art: Soul Clap–Sounds of the African Diaspora

    Gallery X invites artists of the African Diaspora–and those whose work celebrates its musical legacy–to submit to Soul Clap, a juried multimedia exhibition honoring the sound, rhythm, and soul of Black music. The deadline to submit work for consideration is May 1, 2026 at 11:59pm. From the drum circles of West Africa to the deep groove of Funk, Soul, Jazz, Reggae, Hip-Hop, Calypso, Afrobeat, and House, the music of the African Diaspora has shaped global sound and culture. Soul Clap explores this musical continuum through visual and sonic expression–art that vibrates with the rhythm of liberation, resistance, joy, and community. We are seeking works that interpret or are inspired by the music of the African Diaspora, including but not limited to; Visual Arts, Sound Works (original music and sound recordings), & Video Works (music videos, performances, & video art). This is a juried exhibition, artists wishing to participate must email their submission for consideration by Friday, May 1, 2026, at 11:59PM (EST), there is a $20 submission fee, (waiver available for financial hardship). Artists will be notified of the jurors decision by May 10. Accepted work must be delivered between May 13 and May 17.

  • Call For Art: Queer Futures

    Gallery X invites artists to submit works in all media to Queer Futures, a Pride Month exhibition about our community’s dreams for the future. We welcome visions of utopia, the fall of empire, queer sci-fi, solarpunk, works inspired by Afro- and Indigenous Futurism, or visualizations of personal hopes and dreams. Broad interpretations of the theme are welcome. You don’t have to be LGBTQIA+ to submit, although queer and/or BIPOC artists are highly encouraged to show their work! Thanks to the New Bedford Cultural Council, submissions are free. This exhibition is open to submissions from all artists working in any medium, work may be submitted during Gallery hours or by appointment beginning May 6. The deadline for submissions is Sunday, May 17. When submissions are brought to Gallery X the artist will fill out a submission slip with basic contact and labeling information. We are also seeking queer local artists to contribute to a special installation, the Queer Futures time capsule, a vessel full of artifacts, objects, and messages from our imagined queer descendants 500 years in the future.
