Winter Arts
Attend the Grand Reopening of the Zeiterion Theatre on January 17 or catch another show in January, February, or March. The reopening show, “Big Night, Bright Lights!” features Zeiterion residents New Bedford Symphony Orchestra and New Bedford Festival Theatre with special guest, Emmy-Award Winning Comedian Dulcé Sloan. Showings occur at 2 PM and 7 PM.

Get inspired at The People’s Poetry night at the New Bedford Art Museum from 6 to 8 PM on January 28. Every last Wednesday of the month, poets, spoken word artists, and poetry enthusiasts gather at the museum to perform and hear original works and poems that inspire them. This event is free and open to the public.
Winter Walks
Slip on your walking shoes or boots and join the South Coast Walking Book Tour, showcasing the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Ilyon Wood, Master Slave Husband Wife: An Epic Journey from Slavery to Freedom. Visit the home where the couple who escaped from Georgia stayed in New Bedford, along with other sites connected to the Abolitionist Movement. “Exploring Abolition Row with the Walking Book Tour” kicks off at 2 PM on January 22 and is free, but advanced registration is encouraged.
Get in some cardio at one of the city’s over 30 parks, along the working waterfront, or on the Harbor Walk in the south end. Not a fan of the winter weather? Head to the Kilburn Mill at Clark’s Cove, where you can grab a coffee at Society Coffee Bar and stroll through 470,000 square feet of shops, artist studios, galleries, and a sprawling antique mall.
Be Mine, Valentine

Spend some quality time with your loved one at the Rotch-Jones-Duff House and Garden Museum’s Sweetheart Tea on February 8 from 2 to 4 PM. Enjoy a tea service at a private table for two, complete with sandwiches, scones, and sweet treats.
Enjoy a Valentine’s Day with a peaceful serenade by the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra at the Zeiterion Theatre. The night begins with a playful piece, followed by a soulful work by a Black British composer that was nearly lost to history. The evening closes with the beauty of Tchaikovsky at “Romantic Revelations.”
Love All Winter Long
Repurpose your Valentine’s Day flowers and turn them into something that lasts. Using the pigment from the flowers, dye a cotton bandana to be imbued with special memories. This workshop at the New Bedford Art Museum is led by local artist Korie Elli,s who will share her knowledge of using pigments from nature to color fibers. Get in the groove at “Rhythm is Going to Get You” at the Fort Taber Community Center on February 20 from 7 to 10 PM. This monthly ballroom dance event includes social dancing and complementary lessons.
