Cyanotype Postcard Printing Workshop with Dilge Dilsiz

Cyanotype Postcard Printing Workshop with Dilge Dilsiz

Join Artist-in-Residence Dilge Dilsiz during August’s AHA! Night celebration at the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park for a hands-on, creative workshop where science, photography, and art intersect!

In this interactive session, you’ll dive into the cyanotype printing process, which is a historic photographic technique that uses sunlight to produce striking blue prints. Using a mix of physical objects, natural textures, and pre-submitted personal photos, you’ll craft and print your own custom, frame-worthy postcard compositions.

To incorporate your own photograph, please email your image to dilgedilsiz@gmail.com by Tuesday, August 11th! Participants are also welcome to bring small objects—such as leaves, flowers, keepsakes—to create unique silhouettes and textures in their prints.

What You’ll Learn & Do:
–How to compose and arrange physical objects and photographic negatives for printing
–How to expose and wash your prints to reveal bold, classic blue tones
–Take home a collection of your own handmade cyanotype postcards!

Event Details:
–All levels welcome! No prior art or photography experience necessary.
–Open to participants ages 12 and up.
–All printing chemicals, paper, and materials are provided.
