New Bedford Whaling Museum Hosts Free “First Friday” Independence Day Concert with The Jethros on July 4th
Celebrate Independence Day with a night of live music and community with the New Bedford Whaling Museum’s First Friday on July 4th. Presented as part of the City of New Bedford’s Summer Sound Series, the evening will feature a high-energy performance by local favorites, The Jethros.
Kick off the evening with after-hours access to the Museum’s galleries before the musical performance. This special First Fridays event is free and open to the public, with paid reserved seating tickets available for the performance at the Museum’s Captain Paul Cuffe Park. Non-ticket holders are welcome to enjoy the concert for free from Union Street.
A staple of New Bedford’s music scene, The Jethros combine original songwriting with an eclectic mix of styles and standout instrumentation. Band members include Boney Jethro (fiddle), Homer Jethro (guitar), Rufus Jethro (trumpet), Gaston Jethro (bass), LeRoy Jethro (trombone), and Cornelius Jethro (drums).
Doors will open at 5:00 p.m., and performances will begin at 6:30 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved inside the Museum and available for ticket holders only. Museum admission will remain free to the public regardless of the concert location. Additional family-friendly activities will be available along Union Street adjacent to the Museum.
