AHA! Night: Preservation Celebration
Each May is National Preservation Month, and it gives us the opportunity to spotlight the vibrant art, history, architecture, and stories that make New Bedford the unique city it is today. Join us for the celebration on Thursday, May 14th, for AHA! Night: Preservation Celebration. On this special day, the Nathan and Mary (Polly) Johnson House will be open from 6 – 7:30 PM with docent-led tours highlighting the history of the house and its inhabitants. This house stands as a quiet but powerful reminder that preservation is not just about saving a building—it’s about safeguarding the stories that shaped our nation. As the first free home of Frederick Douglass and his wife Anna and the home of Black abolitionists Nathan and Mary (Polly) Johnson, the house holds deep meaning as a place of refuge, courage, and new beginnings. Many thanks to the New Bedford Historical Society for making this possible during May's AHA! Night. Also happening on AHA! Night will be self-guided walking tours, art exhibits, artist talks, free admission to downtown museums, live music, and so much more. May’s AHA! Night is also part of ArtWeek SouthCoast, an annual festival celebrating creativity in our communities. Save the date […]
